Toppers felicitated
ROING, Jul 25: AISSE toppers from Lower Dibang Valley district were felicitated at the 2nd Chhatra Samman Samaroh, organised by the Vivekananda Kendra, Arun Jyoti, Roing here today.
The Kendra also felicitated Tine Mena, the first woman Everester from Northeast. Earlier, the previous day, Mena made a presentation on her summit to the Mt Everest describing her arduous journey to the world's highest peak.
At the Samaroh, 18 students were honoured, wherein 10 students were toppers from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV) Roing, 2 each from Divine Word School (DWS) Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) and Intaya Public School (IPS), Roing and 1 each from Government High School Roing and Bolung.
The students scoring 8.6 grade point and above in their AISSE examination were felicitated. Inda Mihu, Vineet Kumar Jha and Bristi Ankita Saikia of VKV and Ashee Linggi of DWS and Ruchi Singha of IPS were the five among the toppers who scored 10 grade point in their class X examination.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest Garima Gupta (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Roing, advised the students to choose their own career of choice and strive to achieve it.
“You can serve your people, if you are well placed in society.”
Gupta also advised the students to be extra careful in this particular age, as all sorts of negative influence might try to derail them in their pursuit to a successful career.

Itanagar, Jul 25: Laparoscopy operations for 28 patients and placement of Intra Uterine Device (IUD) were done at a family planning cum health awareness camp organized as part of the World Population Fortnight observation at Sagalee Community Health Centre on July 22.

ITANAGAR, Jul 25: Dibang Adi Students’ Union (DASU) in a letter to education minister appealed for renovation of school building, boys and girls hostels of government higher secondary school, Bolung and construction of an auditorium and introduction of commerce stream at GHSS, Bolung.
It also appealed for construction of computer building, introduction of commerce and agriculture course at GHSS, Dambuk.
Further, the union in a separate letter to Director, APEDA, Itanagar said that APEDA has established an energy production unit at Bomjir village in 2010 but it remained defunct till today.
The union appealed the Director to immediately investigates the matter and renovate the machine within one month or provide provision of solar lamp to each and every household free of cost.

Medical camp for students

PASIGHAT, Jul 25: East Siang district administration, police and forest officials

The DM Onit Panyang informed that altogether 103 houses including RCC buildings were evicted successfully during the drive. However, other 27 encroachers obtained stay order against the eviction from Gauhati high court.
He informed that before starting the operation, the 144 CrPC was promulgated and encroachers were requested to cooperate repeatedly. However, the eviction drive turned violent when a group of woman and youths vehemently opposed the drive and restrained the administration to evict the encroachers. Some of the protesters including woman and youths tried to damage JCVs pelting stones and attacked magistrate and police personnel on duty, added Panyang.
Left with no option police had to lob a teargas shell to disperse the mob. The DM also informed that one magistrate, one lady constable and four woman protesters were reportedly received minor injuries during the operation. The DM also lauded police and forest officials for their role in making the drive successful. DIPRO
DLSC urges benficiaries to avail CM’s Disability Pension Scheme
ANINI, Jul 25: District Level Steering Committee (DLSC) was constituted for the implementation of newly launched Chief Minister’s Disability Pension scheme in the Dibang Valley District.
Terming the scheme as noble and innovative initiative of the State Govt. to reach out to most disabled one’s throughout the state, DC urged all genuine beneficiaries to come forward to avail the scheme.
DC sought cooperation from all, particularly the Panchayat Raj members and GBs, in dissemination of information in rural and remote villages of the District about the scheme. The DC also made appeal to render helping hands to a persons with disability in submitting their details to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Highlighting on benefits of the scheme, the DC said, “The Scheme will provide Rs. 6000 per annum to persons with 100% disability in both eyes or in both upper limbs (Arms) or in both lower limbs (legs)”.
Requirement of details to be submitted for availing the scheme includes Name, Age, Sex, Name of village, Circle, Father’s/Husband’s name, Details of Bank Account, Two photographs one showing the face clearly and the other showing the nature of disability. Beneficiaries who are already getting disability pension from any other scheme of Central or State Govt. can also apply, DC added.
All the details will be uploaded on a website directly from the District and the amount of benefit will be disbursed to the beneficiaries by the Deputy Commissioner on the occasion of the Statehood Day, the DC informed.
Administrative officers, HODs, HOO of the District have also been urged to cooperate for effective implementation of the scheme in the district. DIPRO

ITANAGAR, Jul 25: The people of Seppa township would get LPGs at their door step from now onwards, according to Seppa Township Colonies Development Committee (STCDC)
Cooking gas would be distributed among consumers in their respective colonies with help of the colony welfare committee chairman, said STCDC in a release and sought cooperation from each colony dwellers in this regard.
The decision was taken unanimously in a joint meeting organised by Seppa Township Colonies Development Committee (STCDC) with the colony chairmen and the propetior of Kameng Gas Agency on July 23 to ensure LPG to the consumers as well as avoid unnecesary rush during distribution time at gas agency.
The meeting also discussed about various ways and means to solve the cooking gas crisis in East Kameng.
According to Kameng Gas Agency, the main problem in lifting LPG was insufficient vehicle and bad road condition.
The total number of LPG quota allowed by Indian Oil Cooperation Limited (IOC) to Kameng Gas Agency for entire East Kameng district is 4480 out of which 3645 are double connection and 835 are single connection.
It was also told in the meeting that one vehicle has the capacity to lift only 256 numbers of LPG at a time. Whereas the agency has to lift 2754 LPG from Indane distributor in Assam in a month to meet the requirement. But some time it can not lift LPGs because of bad roads, in sufficient vehicle and poor BSNL service.

Workshop on Teachers Training on Vision Screening for school children
ITANAGAR, Jul 25: The department of Ophthalmology of Ramakrishna Mission Hospital (RKMH), Itanagar organized a training programme on vision screening of teachers in collaboration with Orbis International, an international development agency working for pediatric eye care and light for the world, Austria on July 23 at Conference Hall of RKMH.
Speaking on the occasion, Swami Vishweshananda, secretary, RKMH, appraised the gathering about the aims and objectives of the programme. He said that the department of ophthalmology of Ramakrishna Mission has been carrying out such teachers training programme and school screening programme since last 4 years and have treated more than 25000 children of Papum Pare district and neighboring districts.
The school screening programme would be complete in 3 phases. The first would be the teachers training program in which the teachers would be taught on primary eye care and vision screening. The teachers would then go back to their schools and do vision screening of all the children in the school, he said. Those found having defective vision or any ocular problem would be seen in the third phase of this programme by the medical team from RKMH in the confirmatory camps. Those requiring glasses would be provided free of cost and those requiring surgeries would be referred to R.K.Mission Hospital and operated free of cost.
The teachers were given an elaborate presentation on basic anatomy and physiology of eye and various eye diseases in children and their management by Dr. Talum Sorum, Eye specialist of the hospital. Dr. Lobsang Tsetim, Senior eye specialist then gave a powerpoint presentation on ocular safety and vision screening in children. The workshop also had hands on experience on vision screening where the teachers were taught the proper ways of vision screening.
The teachers were provided with a training kit which had a chart for vision screening and handbook on primary eye care and vision screening.
Before conducting this training programme, RKM authority had established network with Directorate of Education, Sarva Shiksa Abhiyan and principals of various private schools of the capital complex area. Orientation meetings with all the collaborators were held and all of them had agreed to support this programme.

It is alarming that throughout the world, one child becomes blind every minute. There
are 1.5 million blind children in the world of which 1 million in are in Asia. India
harbours320,000 blind children (0.6 – 0.8 per 1000 children). The prevalence in India
5 times that of developed nations. Visual impairment is 3 times more than blindness.16-
The problem in India and for that matter in our state of Arunachal Pradesh is that the children often come late to eye care centers. There are very few referral canters in the whole state. Number of Eye specialists and paramedical ophthalmic assistants are few taking into consideration the population and its density. There is no proper network among primary, secondary, and tertiary health care system. Moreover screening for eye diseases among children exists sporadically in schools in the state.
Hence, to tackle to this issue of childhood blindness the department of ophthalmology had taken up a project on improving the pediatric ophthalmology scenario in the state with the financial assistance from Orbis International, New Delhi. Under this project the department carries our routine school screening programs, free pediatric eye surgeries and CMEs and hospital based programs.

ITANAGAR, Jul 25: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Papum Pare in collaboration with Department of Agriculture Engineering, NERIST organsied training cum demo programme on Ergonomically Designed Farm machineries at KVK Farm, Karsingsa recently.
Dr. Taba Heli, Programme Coordinator of KVK Papum Pare highlighting the objectives of the programme said that mechanization of agriculture will not only save the time and energy but also and result in easy operation of farm activities thus increasing in agriculture production.

ITANAGAR, Jul 25: A training programme on “Integrated Farming Systems” encompassing the topics on importance of organic farming, nursery management, soil and seed treatment, integrated nutrient management, integrated pest management, integrated fish farming practices and its scope and potential in Arunachal Pradesh was organized by KVK, Dirang, West Kameng district at National Research Centre on Yak (ICAR), Dirang for the grass root level extension functionaries of Dirang and Thembang circles on July 23 and 24 last.
Altogether, 19 extension functionaries in the position of AFA, HFA, VFA, PPA, Stockman, Grafter, Mali etc. from various line departments of Dirang and Thembang circles participated in the 2 days programme.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. N.D. Singh, Programme Coordinator of KVK West Kameng followed by briefing on the objectives and purpose of the programme by Dr. Deepjyoti Baruah, SMS (Fisheries).

A brainstorming and interaction session was also conducted during the programme in the guidance of Gonya Dirchi, SMS (Plant Protection) and Arvind Pratap, SMS (Agronomy). Films were shown to the participants by Audio Video Aids facilitated by Ms Pema, Programme Assistant (Computer) on the professional subjects such as Quality Protein Maize (QPM) for improved nutrition, Integrated Pest Management in Rice and Yak husbandry practices
Feedbacks were received from the extension functionaries where they expressed satisfaction on the courses covered in the programme.
Majority of the participants suggested in increasing the number of days for conducting similar programmes in near future for better understanding of the subjects concerned. They also desired to increase the frequency of such skill oriented programmes by KVK.

We need someone to wake us up
Dear Editor,
This is regarding Taba Ajum’s article “If not bandh call, what else ?’
As in Arunachal population is very less compared to other states and also media coverage, fasting and dharnas will not gain momentum. When this kind of protest is registered, most of the general public are not aware or they pretend not to have known it, as most of us think its wastage of time. But they are also not the one to blame; its the so called social workers that are polluted. Till today I have not come across any social worker devoting their entire lifetime for the social welfare in our state. Are they trustful to fight a cause? Many scams and injustice cropped up but as our people has the habit of forgetting easily it has vanished with both against the motion and for the motion.
It is not that public will sleep forever. We need someone to wake us up unitedly, not MLA, student leaders, panchayat leaders or sector leaders but the real human in our inner heart. We can fight injustice unitedly or face the injustice alone. Its us to decide. No matter what a bandh call, dharna, or fasting for a cause which is of social welfare lets support it till the final verdict, because who knows you might be the next victim.

We have to change ourselves first
Dear Editor,
I hope the article "If not bandh call,what else?" by Taba Ajum would awake many from
deep slumber. Taba Ajum, as per my observation, is a very matured and learned journalist
and he had rightly justified through his article that bandhs are nothing but obstacles
in the path of development and also highlighted the fact that if nothing is done
to stop the trend then we will be in the lines of West Bengal and Assam. Further
he has also expressed his regretness for bandh being the only option to fight injustice
and the likes of Anna Hazare has no place in our tribal society. But bandh, a nightmare,
has become a curse for our society, whosever may be the organisation/union and whatever
may be the issue/demand, whatever may be the case, the ultimate sufferer/victim is
none but a common man, like you, me and like anybody. I failed to understand how
bandh calls comes under the dimension of democracy....how can declaring a bandh call
is a democratic movement? As per as my knowledge of democracy is concerned, our constitution
which provides for democracy also provides for freedom of movement under Right to
freedom and it is one of our fundamental right for being a citizen of India. Bandh
actually is more of a blaickmail to the concerned authorities and a kind of house-
